At Electric Avenue we pride ourselves on helping ladies and gents find what’s the best electric bike to suit their needs, if we don’t have it, we will tell you out straight! A new bike, especially an e-bike is a big purchase so it’s crucial that you get what suits your needs from the outset – that way you can enjoy the new machine for years to come. We have compiled some common questions we get asked when people are looking into their first e-bike, let’s take a look at some of the basics to help you on your way:
Q. Will I get any exercise on an electric bike?
A. Yes! The battery and motor are there to help you but this isn’t no moped, you have to pedal in order to get assistance from the motor. You will have a range of levels of assistance from 1 – 5, level 5 gives you loads and level 1 gives you little and there’s always Zero if you want to go it alone. On a mid-level setting you can cover 20Km’s without breaking much of a sweat but trust us, you will raise that heart rate and the body will know it’s done worthwhile exercise.
Q. How many years will the battery last on my electric bike?
A. This depends on how you treat the battery and how often you ride your bike. Check out our previous blog; 3 Tips to extend your Electric bike battery life for some helpful insights. In short, the length you will get from your battery depends on the quality of the cells. All our bikes at Electric Avenue use Samsung cells and are rated for up to 800 charge cycles. Now, if you are getting 50Km’s per charge after 800 cycles your bike will be up around 40,000 Km’s! Not bad going for the initial investment and when the time comes you can buy a new one or have your existing one rebuilt with new cells to prevent having to recycle the casing.
Q. Can I add a basket & accessories?
A. Yes, yes you can! Our Electric Avenue Air bike can accommodate most universal baskets on the front headset with ease. As standard, the bikes all come with mud guards and a rear pannier that is rated to carry up to 15Kg in weight, a great option here is to add a rear pannier bag that can hold up to 30 litres (plenty of water or wine!). LED lights are built into the bike front and rear and these are powered off the main battery and operated by a switch on the handlebars for ease of use.
Q. Do you do the cycle to work scheme?
A. Yes, we deal with all cycle to work scheme providers in Ireland and you can avail of the cycle to work scheme once every 4 years. The process is very straight forward, once you trail a bike and are happy to proceed, we provide you with a quote for €1,500 which you provide to your employer who in turn pays us directly or via a voucher. Once you have your voucher give us a call to arrange collection or we offer a delivery service also. There are substantial savings to be made off the purchase price of your bikes so this is a great avenue to explore.
